Happy Geek Out

30 Dec

Happy Holidays everyone! It’s that time of year again. A time filled with holiday laughter, family, music and cheer. It’s also the time of year when all the music magazines release their “Best of 2011″ lists, something only a true music geek (like myself) actually gets excited about. This year I’ve decided to compile my own “Best of” list. Although I’m going to break the rules a bit. Rather then just lists things that came out this year, I’m going to list things that I discovered and played this year, until it was totally worn out (well, it would have been if I still used CD’s). So, I guess in that case it’s not really a “Best of 2011″ list, but rather, a “Best of Emma’s 2011″ list (okay, so the name needs a little work…). None the less, it’s a list of things that I’ve really, really enjoyed this year and thought I should share since I’ve been such a bad blogger and have not been updating frequently (maybe that will be my New Years resolution. One I’ll actually try to keep).

  1. The Civil Wars – Barton Hallow
  2. The Heartbroken – Tonight Tonight
  3. Peter Katz – First of the Last to Know
  4. Modern Field Recordings – We Got Ur Back
  5. The Avett Brothers – I and Love and You
  6. Tallest Man on Earth – The Wild Hunt
  7. Adele – 21
  8. The Weakerthans – Reconstruction Site
  9. Paul Simon – Graceland
  10. Neko Case – Fox Confessor Brings the Flood
  11. Old Crow Medicine Show – Troubles Up and Down the Road
  12. Pomplamoose – Tribute to Famous People
  13. Kim Churchill – Kim Churchill
  14. Billy Bragg and Wilco – Mermaid Avenue
  15. Harlan Pepper – Young and Old
  16. The Mountains and the Trees – I Made This for You
  17. Bright Eyes – I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning
  18. The Head and the Heart – The Head and the Heart

I’m very glad to see you blogging again. It was a nice surprise. I think a New Years Resolution is a good idea.
