Buzz, STING!
Okay, so I completely forgot about random playlist Monday, WHOOPS! So that’s what today is going to be. And here it is.
1. You Can Always Come Home (feat. Serena Ryder) – Jason Castro (how many times has this song come up on shuffle)
2. Driven To Tears – Sting (not sure why I have this, but a classic all the same)
3. Shout It – Mitchell Musso (not at all embarrassing that I have this…)
4. One Of Those Days – Joshua Radin
5. Stranded – Hope For Haiti Now Version (a somewhat bearable version)
6. Make The Most – Brett Dennen
7. Walcott – Vampire Weekend
8. Rosie – Chubby Checker (apparently every week, we continue my old guy music thing)
9. Lonely – Tom Waits (I don’t know what is up with Tom and my playlists, but he’s always there)
10. Don’t You Fall – The Be Good Tanyas (this always makes me think of my mom)
That was incredibly strange. Sting to Mitchell Musso (a very sappy Disney guy), than Vampire Weekend to Chubby Checker. Goes to show how strange my iPod is. Anyways, I’m thinking Sting, because it’s one of the only things on that playlist I haven’t talked about or atleast mentioned, which is what I love about random playlsits, I always find something new.
So I’m not entirely sure what to write about, on the topic of Sting. The song came from the Hope For Haiti Now CD, which is superb, but I can’t say I’m a huge Sting fan, although I actually quite like the song. I just went and downloaded a few more and may becoming more of a fan. I think the name may have been a bit of a turn-off, seems more rockier (nice word) than he is. Anways thank you playlist for introducing me to this song, that I didn’t even know I had. Below is Sting singing Driven To Tears, which is a fantastic song, the lyrics are very interesting too. Enjoy the video, the show he played this for really was awesome, a great fundraiser, I advise you to go buy the CD and check out the telethon at youtube.
I can’t believe I may have just become a Sting fan. One day I talk about the Zac Brown Band, the next Sting. This was a fantastic discovery, hope you enjoyed it, and have been taking more advantage of Sting than I have over the years.
My final conclusion: never jugde a band by it’s name!
P.S. Lee won American Idol, YEAH!!! Check out his version of Beatiful Day by U2, although nothing could compare, it’s pretty well done.
La-Di-Da-Di-Da
Once again it’s a headache day, but I’m going to fight through the pain and still write my post. To warn you, I’m on tylenol and at the moment I’m in a happy la-di-da-di-da (is that how you spell it) mood so that may influence my music choice for the day. I was going through my music collection figuring out what to talk about and all of a sudden I came across it. Brett Dennen, I mean he’s pretty la-di-da-di-da and happy.
I first came across Brett Dennen a few years ago by discovering his song The One Who Loves You The Most (which I actually used in English class for a song analysis, and my teacher loved it). Anyways, I discovered him a few years ago and actually wasn’t sure how much I liked it. A few more listens later and the song made it onto a few of my playlists (which are always the same). About a year later I re-discovered it and this time completely fell in love with it. I went out and bought more CD’s by him. These days Brett is still a music staple in my collection.
He has this happy, believing, you can do anything vibe in his music that’s actually been really good for me lately. As CD’s go, my favourite has to be So Much More which was his second album. His songs, Ain’t No Reason and The One Who Loves You The Most are my favourite, both from So Much More. All 3 of his CD’s are great though. Hope for the Hopeless also has pretty great songs. He also did this song with Jason Mraz for a charity, it wasn’t the best, but they both have such strong voices so it was kind of enjoyable to listen to both of them.
He’s also really interesting looking — I mean that hair is really something (think that’s his natural colour?). He doesn’t really look like what I first pictured but I think it works in a weird, crazy hair kind of way (Robert Pattinson, that’s how you do wacky hair). In my opinion he sounds nothing like Bob Dylan nor anyone else, but I know he’s been compared to him many times. I mean his voice is really something else, somewhat annoying at some times, but not really.
Please, enjoy the video, stare at his hair for awhile and take in his whole image, it’s really something else. Oh, listen to the music as well, it’s pretty great too. He’s awesome at songwriting (if he writes his own songs, but I think he does).
The video’s cool if not a little strange for the song, but I more wanted you to get the visual of him. The song is probably my favourite as well. I love the line “I got a basket full of lemons and they all taste the same” — not sure what it means but it’s great. If you don’t know about him than check it out, I promise you won’t be disappointed. Last.fm has a great radio for him too.
P.S. it’s Shania Twain night on American Idol. One word (many syllables), BAAAAAAD!
P.P.S. I had something to say here but I can’t remember. I remember, I was thinking about changing the layout of my blog, any suggestions? comments? anything? I’m open for suggestions, don’t be scared I don’t bite (most of the time, I’ve put my vampire ways behind me, they got way to popular for my liking).
